TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards in basketball.


November 20, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for games November 13-19)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Jadyn Shider, Northwest Florida State
  • Region 8 DII Men's Basketball Player of the Week: Antewan Webber, Florida Gateway
  • Region 8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week: Amelia Hassett, Eastern Florida State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall & Winter Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College beat No. 3 Miami Dade College 3-1 in the Championship Game at the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. The win gave the Buccaneers a second straight National Championship. Daytona State College, playing in its first National Tournament, dropped both of its matches in four sets.
    • Division II: No. 12 seed Pensacola State College knocked off No. 5 Iowa Central Community College and No. 4 Johnson County (Kan.) Community College to earn a berth in the National Semifinals, where it fell to eventual National Champion Cowley (Kan.) College in straight sets. Pensacola State rebounded to beat Iowa Central for the second time before falling to Johnson County in the tournament's third-place match. No. 13 seed Gulf Coast State College won its opening round match before falling to Johnson County in four sets. The Commodores won its first elimination match against Harford (Md.) Community College but bowed out with a five-set loss to Iowa Central.
  • Men's Soccer
    • Division I: Eastern Florida State College's season came to an end with a 1-0 loss to Tyler (Texas) Junior College in its final pool play game at the NJCAA Division I Men's National Championship.
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Eastern Florida State came up short in its bid for its first national title, falling to Iowa Western Community College, 1-0 in overtime, in the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Championship game.
  • Cross Country
    • Men's Half Marathon: Daytona State finished sixth, leading a quartet of FCSAA programs in the team standings. Eastern Florida State finished 10th; Pasco-Hernando State, 12th; and Florida Gateway, 23rd. Eastern Florida's Dayton Law was the FCSAA's top individual finisher in 19th. 
    • Women's Half Marathon: Eastern Florida State finished seventh in the team standings, which paced the FCSAA's participating teams. Pasco-Hernando State came in ninth. Florida Gateway and South Florida State College were 12th and 13th, respectively. The College of Central Florida placed 17th and Pensacola State College, 22nd.
  • Men's Basketball
    • Division I: Daytona State jumped three spots to No. 10 to give the FCSAA three teams in the top ten of the NJCAA DI Poll, behind No. 1 Northwest Florida State College and No. 7 Chipola College. Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 23 while Indian River State, Gulf Coast State and Florida SouthWestern received votes.  
  • Women's Basketball
    • Division I: Northwest Florida State continues to sit atop the NJCAA DI Poll. Gulf Coast State dropped to No. 5 after a loss to then-unranked and now No. 23 Eastern Florida State. Pensacola State College moved up one spot to No. 9 and Chipola inched forward one spot to No. 17. 
    • Division II:  Palm Beach State College earned its first appearance in the NJCAA DII Poll, entering at No. 19. 
  • Swimming & Diving
    • Men: Indian River State finished first out of six teams at the Panther Invite. 
    • Women: Indian River State finished first out of six teams at the Panther Invite.
  • Golf
    • Men: In the first Clippd NJCAA rankings of the year, Eastern Florida State is ranked 11th. 
    • Women: Seminole State and Daytona State are 1-2 in the first Clippd NJCAA rankings of the year. Eastern Florida State is No. 10.
