TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 18, 2023) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Player of the Week Awards in Baseball and Softball.


Region 8 Coaches' Polls - April 17, 2023

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (April 10-16)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Player of the Week: Andrey Martinez, St. Petersburg
  • Region 8 Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Drew Howard, Chipola
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Player of the Week: Sierrah Snook, St. Petersburg
  • Region 8 Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week: Justice McCraine, St. Petersburg
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Player of the Week: Pedro Moreno, South Florida State
  • Region 8 Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Noah Wood, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Player of the Week: Alexis Joy, Pasco-Hernando State
  • Region 8 Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week: Emily Proctor, Pasco-Hernando State

NOTE: Baseball and Softball recipients will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week, which will be announced on Wednesday.

Sports Updates

  • Congratulations to Pasco-Hernando State College Director of Athletics Steve Winterling, who received the NJCAA Loyalty Award during the NJCAA Convention
  • Women's Tennis: Hillsborough Community College claimed the FCSAA Championship while runner-up St. Petersburg College and third-place finisher Eastern Florida State College also qualified for the NJCAA Championships. 
  • Beach Volleyball: The NJCAA Beach Volleyball Championships gets underway on Thursday at Hickory Point Beach in Tavares, Fla. No. 1 seed Palm Beach State College hits the sand at 9 a.m. for pool play vs. Bryant & Stratton (Va.) College. Following a break, the Panthers will play their second pool play match against Gaston (N.C.) College at 2 p.m. No. 5 seed Lake-Sumter State College plays Bryant & Stratton (Wisc.) College at 12:45 p.m. and Mesa (Ariz.) College at 3:15 p.m. No. 6 seed St. Johns River State College faces Trinidad (Colo.) State College at 11:30 a.m. and Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College at 2 p.m. No. 10 seed State College of Florida plays Richard Bland (Va.) College at 10:15 a.m. and South Mountain (Ariz.) College at 12:45 p.m.
  • Softball: Florida SouthWestern State College is No. 1 once again in the NJCAA Division I softball poll. Northwest Florida State College fell back to No. 5 and is followed by No. 8 College of Central Florida, No. 10 Seminole State College and No. 14 Indian River State College. Lake-Sumter State College continues to receive votes in the NJCAA Division II softball poll.
  • Baseball: Central Florida's sweep of Santa Fe College propelled the Patriots to No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I baseball poll while the Saints slipped to No. 7. Miami Dade College entered the poll at No. 20 while Gulf Coast State College and State College of Florida received votes. Region 8 continues to have two teams ranked in the NJCAA Division II baseball poll - No. 10 Pasco-Hernando State College and No. 14 St. Johns River State College. 
  • Women's Golf: The Southeast District Championship is underway in South Carolina. After day one, defending national champion Seminole State College leads the way with Daytona State College and Eastern Florida State College in second and third, respectively.
