FCSAA's Finest Honored in Division I Volleyball

FORT MYERS, Fla.- The top 12 Division I Volleyball players in the state of Florida were honored Thursday night at the FCSAA State Tournament Banquet in Fort Myers, earning prestigious All-FCSAA and All-NJCAA Region VIII accolades.

Earning FCSAA Player of the Year honors was Julija Grubisic Cabo of Florida SouthWestern who ranked 5th in the state in kills during the regular season and led all pin hitters with a .368 hitting percentage.  Grubisic Cabo also contributed on the defensive end with 2.67 digs per set, making her one of just four players in the league averaging over 3.00 kills and 2.50 digs per set this season.

Miami Dade had a state high four players named to the All-State Team, led by sophomore outside hitter Katielle Alonzo who ranked 3rd in the state in kills per set with 3.51 and was 2nd behind Grubisic Cabo among outsides in hitting percentage with a .330 mark. She was joined by teammates Mia Martinez, Esthefany Rabit, and Luyeisy Marquez.  Martinez was the lone libero to earn All-State honors after leading the state and ranking 9th Nationally averaging 5.10 digs per set on the year.  She also contributed at the service line where her 0.52 aces per set ranked 2nd in the state.  Rabit was one of the top two way threats in the FCSAA this season, ranking 2nd in the state in blocks per set with 1.14 while also putting together a .408 hitting percentage on the year which was 2nd best. Marquez, who was also honored with Citrus Conference Freshman of the Year honors Thursday, ranked in the Top 10 in the state in kills per set with 2.70 and was the 3rd most efficient outside hitter in the state with a .316 mark on the year.

Joining Grubisic Cabo from Florida SouthWestern on the All-State squad was middle hitters Abby Toeniskoetter and Nina Boledovicova. Toeniskoetter led both the state and the country in two different categories during the regular season, putting together a .463 hitting percentage and registering 1.44 blocks per set which were both best at the NJCAA Division I level. Fellow Bucs middle, Boledovicova ranked 4th in the state with 1.07 blocks per set and 6th in hitting percentage at .340.

A pair of Eastern Florida State Titans garnered All-State honors.  Libby Ashline represented the Titans in the middle while Dominae Jordan earned the honors on the outside.  Ashline ranked in the Top 10 in the state in both blocks per set with 0.85 and in hitting percentage at .326.  Jordan ranked 2nd in the state during the regular season with 3.53 kills per set which included 16 matches this season with 10 or more kills.

Leading Santa Fe back to the postseason for the first time in four seasons, Maria Contreras was the lone representative for the Saints. Contreras ranked 3rd in the state in assists per set with 7.28 and was the top blocking setter in the state, averaging 0.77 blocks per set during the regular season.

Last but certainly not least was Hillsborough's Taylor Sass who led the state wire to wire in kills per set, averaging 3.71 during the 2024 campaign.  Sass was busy this season, putting together 866 total swings and turning that into double digit kills in 21 of 26 Hawk games during the year.
