NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: September 3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 3, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for September 3 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played through September 1. 

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released September 10.

Player of the Week: Manuela Ibarguen, Polk State
Fr. – OH | Rio Negro, Colombia 

  • Averaged 5.0 kills and 2.2 digs over 21 sets in six matches
  • Helped the Eagles to a perfect 6-0 start to the season, including wins over nationally-ranked Tyler and Panola
  • Posted double-digit kills in each match

Other nominees: Isabel Martin, Hillsborough; Anaeli Perea Martin, Eastern Florida State; Amanda Lebioda, Central Florida

Defensive Player of the Week: Essence Bell, Central Florida
Fr. – Libero | Ocala, Fla. 

  • Averaged 5.1 digs in 24 sets over seven matches
  • Helped Central Florida to six wins in seven matches
  • Recorded double-digit digs in six of seven matches including 30 vs. No. 1 Miami Dade

Setter of the Week: Milexa Cardona, Polk State
So. – S | Orlando, Fla. 

  • Averaged 8.7 assists in 21 sets over six matches
  • Helped the Eagles to a perfect 6-0 start to the season, including wins over nationally-ranked Tyler and Panola
  • Recorded at least 25 assists in each match
