NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 29

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 29, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division II Volleyball Coaches' Poll for October 29 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played October 21-27.

This is the final poll for the 2019 season.

The next individual weekly awards will be released November 5.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Andressa Praise, St. Petersburg
So. – MB | Santa Catarina, Brazil 

  • In her only match of the week, she posted a double-double, 29 kills and 11 digs, in St. Pete's four-set win over Daytona State that punched the Titans' ticket to the region tournament
  • Also registered a .447 hitting percentage

Defensive Player of the Week: Chloe Melis, Central Florida
Fr. – MB | Aix en Provence, France 

  • Tallied five total blocks, including one block solo, in the Patriots' 3-0 win over Lake-Sumter State

Setter of the Week: Suelen Caroline, Central Florida
Fr. – S | Curitiba, Brazil 

  • Totaled 30 assists in the Patriots' straight-set victory over Lake-Sumter State

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division II Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Emma Richards, Gulf Coast State
Fr. – MB | Blountstown, Fla. 

  • Averaged 3.8 kills in nine sets over two matches during the voting period
  • Helped Gulf Coast State to a pair of wins to sew up a share of the Sun-Lakes Conference Championships
  • Had 18 kills in win vs. Pasco-Hernando State and 16 in five-set triumph over South Florida State

Defensive Player of the Week: Ava Shmueli, Gulf Coast State
Fr. – S | Delray Beach, Fla. 

  • Averaged 4.6 digs over nine sets in two matches during the voting period
  • Led the Commodores to a share of the Sun-Lakes Conference Championship with wins over Pasco-Hernando State and South Florida State
  • Had 15 digs vs. Pasco-Hernando State and 26 in the win over South Florida State; also had 48 assists in each match

Setter of the Week: Jordyn Pruski, St. Johns River State
So. – S | San Antonio, Texas 

  • Averaged 7.5 assists over 11 sets in three matches during the voting period
  • Helped the Vikings to two wins in three matches
  • Her best efforts of the week came in a five-set defeat to Florida State College-Jacksonville when she recorded 47 assists
