NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 8, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches’ Polls for October 8 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played September 30-October 6.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 15.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards
Player of the Week: Isabel Martin, Hillsborough
Fr. – MH | Mauerstetten, Bavaria, Germany
 

  • Averaged 4.7 kills and 1.9 digs over 13 sets in three matches during the voting period
  • Also tallied a .478 hitting percentage and averaged 0.4 service aces and 0.5 total blocks per set
  • Helped Hillsborough to two wins in three matches, the lone setback being a five-set loss to Miami Dade
  • Against St. Petersburg, she had 22 kills and 15 digs

Defensive Player of the Week: Sydney Jaco, State College of Florida

  • Averaged 6.5 digs in 11 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Her best match of the week came against Palm Beach State when she recorded 31 digs to punch her name into the 25-Dig Club

Setter of the Week: Marina Alonso, Florida SouthWestern

  • Averaged 10.6 assists in 10 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Led the Bucs to a perfect 3-0 week
  • Increased her assists total in each match, culminating with 44 vs. Palm Beach State

  • Averaged 3.2 kills and 3.0 digs over 12 sets in four matches during the voting period
  • Helped St. Johns River State to a 3-1 week
  • Posted a pair of double-doubles – 14 kills/11 digs vs. Lake-Sumter State and 10 kills/16 digs vs. South Florida State
