Gulf Coast State wins Sun-Lakes tourney, punches ticket to nationals

AVON PARK, Fla. (November 3, 2019) - Gulf Coast State College defeated St. Johns River State College in straight sets on Sunday to capture the Sun-Lakes Conference Tournament Championship.

The win also gave the Commodores the NJCAA's Gulf District Championship, which qualifies Gulf Coast State for the NJCAA Tournament. 

Gulf Coast State and St. Johns River State were the top two seeds in the tournament, which saw the higher seed win each of the five matches. 

No. 3 Lake-Sumter State College knocked off No. 6 Florida Gateway College and No. 4 South Florida State College eliminated No. 5 Pasco-Hernando State College in Saturday's opening round. After receiving a bye into the semifinals, top-seed Gulf Coast State knocked out South Florida State and No. 2 seed St. Johns River State eliminated the defending champion Lakehawks.
