Hillsborough wins FCSAA volleyball championship; Central Florida wins District P qualifier

GULF BREEZE, Fla. (November 8, 2015) - In a battle of 1 vs. 2 in the FCSAA Volleyball Coaches' Poll, Hillsborough Community College defeated Suncoast Conference rival Polk State College in three sets to claim the NJCAA District/FCSAA State Volleyball Championship.

The top-ranked Hawks won by the scores of 25-22, 25-17, 25-21, solidifying its No. 1 FCSAA ranking. 

Both teams will advance to the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship in Casper, Wyo., courtesy of Saturday's victories, but today's win figures to give Hillsborough an extra boost when seeding for the 16-team national tournament is announced. 

Hillsborough's Abbie O'Ferrell was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. 

Earlier in the day, No. 3 College of Central Florida defeated No. 4 Indian River State College in five sets to win the District P Qualifier and move within one win of joining Hillsborough and Polk State in the national tournament. 

The Patriots will head west to Bay Minette, Ala., for Tuesday's District P Championship Game against Faulkner State Community College.
