ASA Miami claims Region 8 Women's Tennis Championship

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. (April 14, 2019) - ASA College Miami captured the the NJCAA Region 8 Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday with a dominant performance, winning 26 of a possible 27 points. 

It marked the Silver Storm's third region championship in the last four years. 

Hillsborough Community College won the FCSAA State Championship with 18 points, second behind ASA Miami for Region 8 honors. St. Petersburg College, the FCSAA Runners-up, finished third overall with 7.5 points. 

ASA Miami took five of the six singles flight championships, led by No. 1 Molly Helgesson. The Silver Storm also swept the three doubles flights with Tatiana Simova and Michaela Krauskova winning at No. 1 doubles. 

Hillsborough's Hana Kvapilova, who fell in the No. 1 singles championship match, was named FCSAA Player of the Year and headed up the six-member FCSAA All-State team. She was joined by Renata Gonzalez, Hillsborough; Shaylee Smye, Hillsborough; Fabiola Candal-Ranalli, Hillsborough; and Tsveti Trifonova, Eastern Florida State.

Hillsborough's Sarah Summerfield was named FCSAA Coach of the Year.
