MELBOURNE, Fla. - For the first time in school history, Daytona State College is headed to the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.
The Falcons punched their ticket to Wichita, Kan., with a 4-0 victory over Eastern Florida State College in Saturday's Southeast District Championship Match.
Just six days ago, Daytona State shut out the Titans, 6-0, to win the FCSAA Division I Championship. Both teams qualified for the district tournament and were heavy favorties to meet up on Saturday.
Daytona State beat Southern Union (Ala.) State Community College while Eastern Florida State knocked off USC Lancaster to set up the fourth meeting of the season between the FCSAA rivals.
The Falcons got on the board first with 22 minutes and 41 seconds left in the first half as Alyse Then found the ball in the middle of the box and finished to make it 1-0.
Two minutes later it would be 2-0 on a nice shot by Jimena Castro. It would remain 2-0 for the rest of the first half.
Shaneil Buckley took over in the second half, scoring twice to finish the day with two goals and an assist.
Falcons goalie Julianna Trujillo recorded her fourth straight shutout.
The NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship will take place November 17-23 in Wichita, Kan.
