NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Pensacola State College won its second straight Region 8 Women's Soccer Championship with a pair of wins over Pasco-Hernando State College.
The Pirates picked up consecutive 3-0 wins on Thursday and Friday to complete a sweep of the teams' four-game regular season series.
Having swept a doubleheader when the teams met in Pensacola on September 13 and 14, the Pirates only needed one win to lock up the Region 8 Championship and wasted little time accomplishing that goal.
In Thursday's first match, Pensacola State got on the board with a first-half goal, then padded their lead with two more in the second half for the 3-0 win.
The Pirates made it four in a row over their FCSAA rivals with another 3-0 win on Friday.
The teams played a scoreless first half and the score remained 0-0 until Paige Phillips found the net in the 67th minute, which proved to be the game-winner. Phillips scored her second goal of the match nine minutes later and Vivian Kettenhausen added another at the 81st minute to complete the scoring.
Pensacola State will now get ready for the NJCAA Division II South Atlantic District Championship Game on Saturday, November 2. The game will be hosted by the Region 10 Champion.
