
VIERA, Fla. - Defending national champion Daytona State College took a big step towards a potential repeat on Tuesday, winning the NJCAA Division I South District Women's Golf Championship.
After posting a team score of four-under in Monday's first round, the Falcons shot a final round 295 (+3) to win the tournament, 17 shots ahead of runner-up Eastern Florida State College.
The Titans grabbed an eight-stroke lead on eventual third-place finisher Seminole State College after the first round and lost only three strokes to the Raiders on Tuesday.
Eastern Florida State finished at +17 while Seminole State posted a team score of +22.
First-year participants Palm Beach State College (+44) and Florida Gateway College (+100) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Daytona State's Cambree Hodge (-4) and Tylar Whiting (-2) finished first and second, respectively, in the individual scoring. Eastern Florida State's Jenna Barnett (+1) was third.
By virtue of their finish in the team standings, Daytona State and Eastern Florida State qualified for the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, May 12-15 at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Finney County, Kansas.
