Florida Gateway College Introducing Women’s Golf Team to Athletics Lineup

Tammy Carter

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Florida Gateway College is proud to announce the introduction of Women's Golf to FGC Athletics beginning in Fall 2024 and the selection of Tammy Carter, Head Golf Pro at Quail Heights Country Club, as the team's head coach.

FGC will be one of five state colleges in Florida to compete in the sport, with Palm Beach State College also introducing a women's golf team in Fall 2024.

"This has been in the works for some time," said FGC Athletic Director Chris Hackett, "and everything really fell into place to make this happen. We have a strong relationship with Quail Heights, a growing interest in women's golf at the college level, and a great pool of young golf talent from local high school teams.

Tammy Carter has been Head Golf Professional at Quail Heights since 2013 and has a nearly 30-year career in the world of golf as a student, pro, and coach. She competed with the Columbia High School Girls' Golf Team from 1996 to 2000 and was inducted into the CHS Athletic Hall of Fame. She is a three-time Florida State Girls Champion in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Following high school, Carter played on the FUTURES Professional Golf Tour from 2001 to 2003. She was a Florida Qualifier for both the USGA Girls' Championship and the Women's Amateur Championship

Carter is a certified LPGA Teaching and Club Pro Apprentice, providing lessons and Junior Golf Camps to budding golfers. She served as girls' golf coach for Fort White High School in 2017 and for Columbia High School from 2018 to 2021.

"I'm excited to be selected as the Women's Golf Coach for FGC's new program and to be coaching at the college level," said Carter. "My hope is that I will be able to build a program that excels on the golf course and in the classroom."

Carter's illustrious career in golf, years of instructional experience, and her deep connection to Lake City and the surrounding communities made her the ideal choice for Head Coach of FGC Women's Golf. The team will compete in Fall and Spring seasons, and Quail Heights Country Club in Lake City will serve as the Timberwolves' home course for practice and play.

The addition of Women's Golf brings the full slate of women's, men's, and coed collegiate sports at FGC to eight. For more information, schedules, and updates on FGC Athletics, visit www.fgcwolves.com.
