Seminole State wins fourth straight women's golf National Championship

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (May 12, 2023) - Seminole State College led wire-to-wire and won its fourth straight NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship on Friday. 

This is the fifth National Championship overall for the Raiders, all coming since 2015, and they finished in the Top 2 in each of the last eight championship tournaments. 

Seminole State's dominating performance included a pair of sub-300 rounds, the only ones recorded in the tournament, en route to a team score of +49.

Daytona State College placed second, extending its run of top two finishes to ten straight championship tournaments. 

Eastern Florida State College made up 14 strokes on Mesa (Ariz.) Community College in the final round, overtaking the Thunderbirds to finish in eighth place. 

Seminole State held a seven-stroke lead over Daytona State after the first round of play then lost a stroke to the Falcons on day two. Round three proved to be the difference as Seminole State shot a 291, 14 strokes better than Daytona State. With a 20-stroke lead, the Raiders coasted home in the final round. 

Leading the way for the Raiders was Pearl Phoncharatkin, who claimed her first individual title with a total score of 296 (+8) over four rounds. Teammate Salysa Mason finished third, just two strokes behind Phoncharatkin. 

Daytona State's Angelica Holmon finished sixth (+15), leading a run of four straight finishers from Region 8. Eastern Florida State's Sarah Knitter and Seminole State's Rim Imni tied for seventh at +16 and Daytona State's Alexis Rieli placed ninth (+18). 

Phoncharatkun, Mason and Holmon earned First-team All-America while Knitter, Imni and Rieli were Second-team.

Daytona State's Madison Tenore, who finished in a tie for 16th, was named Honorable Mention All-America.

Seminole State's Christa Teno was named Coach of the Tournament.
