Seminole State women's golf captures district title

VIERA, Fla. (April 19, 2022) - Defending national champion Seminole State College took another step towards defending its title on Tuesday, winning the NJCAA Southeast District Women's Golf Tournament, held at Duran Golf Club. 

The Raiders shot a final round score of 300 to finish the two-day event at 590 en route to its fourth consecutive district championships. The win sends Seminole State back to the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, which it will host at Mayfair Country Club in Sanford, Fla., May 9-12.

Seminole State's Minori Nagano finished under par for the second straight round, shooting a 3-under 69 to place first with a 7-under 137 for the tournament. Teammates Ayami Takahashi was third at 6-over while Grace Aromando was tied for fourth at 8-over.

Daytona State College placed second in the tournament, shooting a 308 in the second round and finished with a 601 overall, 11 strokes back of the Raiders. By finishing in second, the Falcons also qualified for the national tournament.

Daytona State's Briana Gabe finished the tournament in second place, shooting a 2-over 146.

Eastern Florida State College placed third and will wait to see if it receives an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Day 1 Recap

Seminole State enjoyed a three-stroke lead over Daytona State after day one.

The Raiders shot a 290 in the first round, led by Nagano, who shot a 4-under 68 to lead the field.

Daytona State finished with a 293 on day one. Gabe joined Nagano as the only players who shot under par on day one, finishing with a 1-under 71.

Eastern Florida State sat in third in the team standings after day one.
