Lady Patriots down HCC, move to 5-0 in MFC

TAMPA- Thais Oliveira scored 29 points, while Valerie Hill and Sheanna James scored 10 points each to lead the College of Central Florida women's basketball team past Hillsborough Community College 58-43.

The Patriots improved to 5-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference with the win.

"We are looking at the conference as three four-game series," CF coach Tommy Jones said. "We got through the first undefeated and now we are 1-0 in conference for the second. The girls have bought into what we are doing.

"We've got to keep working hard."

CF has now won seven straight games and 13 of its last 14.

"I've got a great group of kids," Jones said.

In the second win over HCC this season, CF used its defense to turn back the Hawks.

"We really did a good job of holding them down," Jones said. "Our defense was excellent. On offense, we turned the ball over more than I would have liked, but for the most part, we did a good job of handling the ball.

"Then Thais was just did outstanding grabbing rebounds. It was good for us to get another road win."

CF is now 3-0 on the road in conference play.

The win for the Patriots was the first on the road over HCC since the Hawks joined the conference five years ago.

CF also has won the season series with HCC for the first time in four years. The two teams will meet one more time this season in Ocala.

For its next game, CF hosts Santa Fe on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. The Patriots won on the road in Gainesville against their rival earlier this season.
