
LONGWOOD, Fla. (May 10, 2021) - Chipola College swept its way through the winners bracket to win the FCSAA State Softball Championship and the NJCAA's South Atlantic District A title.
The Indians knocked off three nationally-ranked teams - No. 12 College of Central Florida, No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College and No. 12 Indian River State College - to win the state championship and claim the district's first berth to the NJCAA Tournament in Yuma, Ariz. The win over Indian River State was a 4-3, 8-inning triumph.
Florida SouthWestern and Indian River State successfully navigated the loser's bracket and played in Monday's final game of the tournament, with the Bucs taking a 10-3 win to claim the South Atlantic District B championship, accompanied by a berth to nationals.
Chipola's Zayla McBurrows was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player while the Indians' Belinda Hendrix was named FCSAA Coach of the Year.
