The River rolls to its 51st straight men's National Championship

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Indian River State College continued its dominance of NJCAA Swimming & Diving by winning the Men's National Championship on Saturday.

The victory marked the 51st straight championship for the Pioneers. 

Indian River State tallied 1,362 points in team scoring, led by NJCAA Swimmer of the Year Oliver Nell and NJCAA Diver of the Year Justin Halford.

Not to be outdone, Indian River State's women's team won its 43rd straight championship, and 47th overall.

Combined, Indian River State teams won 49 of 50 events during the championship and The River men established the following NJCAA records over the four-day event:

  • Men's 1000m Freestyle: Elliot Weisel, 9:01.34
  • Men's 50m Freestyle: Oliver Nell, 18.95
  • Men's 50m Backstroke: Oliver Nell, 20.99
  • Men's 200m Free Relay: Oliver Nell, Riccardo Pandin, Tom Ferguson, Felipe Costa, 1:17.55
  • Men's 400m Medley Relay: Oliver Nell, Kito Campbell, Gabriel Morales, Riccardo Pandin, 3:11.00
  • Men's 100m Backstroke: Oliver Nell, 45.98
  • Men's 1 meter Diving: Justin Halford, 355.80 points
  • Men's 200m Medley Relay: Oliver Nell, Kito Campbell, Gabriel Morales, Riccardo Pandin, 1:25.75
  • Men's 50m Butterfly: Oliver Nell, 20.52
  • Men's 200m Backstroke: Gabriel Morales, 1:44.36
  • Men's 400m Free Relay: Oliver Nell, Riccardo Pandin, Tom Ferguson, Gabriel Morales, 2:53.84

Fellow FCSAA member College of the Florida Keys had its best showing in its brief history, finishing eighth with 147 total points.

Indian River State's Sion Brinn was named the NJCAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year and David Suba was named NJCAA Men's Diving Coach of the Year.
