HICKORY, N.C. (May 15, 2022) - Florida State College at Jacksonville took the decisive game three against Catawba Valley (N.C.) Community College on Sunday evening, winning 10-6 to claim the best-of-3 series, two games to one.

With the win, the Blue Wave, playing their first season in Division II, claimed the NJCAA South Atlantic District Championship and a berth in the NJCAA Division II World Series, which begins May 28 in Enid, Okla.

FSCJ won Saturday's game one, 3-0, behind Daniel Gaviria (8 IP) and Patrick Groark (1 IP), who combined on the six-hit shutout. The host Red Wolves evened the series in Sunday's first game, winning in come-from-behind fashion, 11-8, to set up the winner-take-all game three.

Catawba Valley scored two runs in its first at-bat, but FSCJ grabbed the lead with a five-run second. With two runs already in, Barry Eiseman's three-run homer to center put the Blue Wave in front, 5-2.

CVCC cut the lead to 5-3 in the top of the fourth, but Eiseman answered with a RBI-single in the bottom half to push FSCJ's lead back to three (6-3).

The teams traded runs again in the fifth then FSCJ put the game away an inning later.

Garrett Chun doubled down the right field line to plate two runs, then Blake Wood singled home Eiseman to put the Blue Wave in front 10-4.

Groark struck out the side in the ninth to close the game.
