Chipola rolls to District/State Baseball Championship

LAKELAND, Fla. (May 10, 2017) - Top-ranked Chipola College defeated No. 4 Palm Beach State College, 12-0, to win the NJCAA Gulf District/FCSAA State Baseball Championship.

The Indians will advance to the JUCO World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., later this month. 

After defeating St. Johns River State College, 5-2, in Friday's opening round game, Chipola outscored its next four opponents, 51-7. 

On Wednesday, the Indians took control with a nine-run third inning to break a scoreless tie. 

Sophomore slugger Reynaldo Rivera, already named the FCSAA State Player of the Year, was voted the Bob Zelinski Most Valuable Player of the Tournament. 

Rivera's teammate, Riley Cabral, was named the Bob Perky Pitcher of the Tournament.
