CF Baseball splits with Eastern Florida

MELBOURNE- The College of Central Florida baseball team scored 12 times in the fourth inning of the second game of a doubleheader against Eastern Florida State to split with the Titans.

The Patriots bounced back from a 7-4 loss in the opener with a 12-1 win to close the day out against Eastern Florida.

CF was led over the course of the twinbill by Ryan Crile (three runs scored, triple), Justin Ambrosino (two runs scored, double), Luke Heyer (3-for-6, three runs scored, two RBI, double), Christian Khawam (3-for-7, two doubles, four RBI, two runs scored), Colby Brown (3-for-5, three runs scored, two doubles, one RBI) and Malik Tatis (2-for-5, run scored, RBI).

Octavio Mirabal earned the win in the second game for CF, as he allowed one run on two hits in six innings of work. Mirabal walked one and struck out seven.

In the opener, CF fell behind 5-0 in the first inning, but closed to within one run after its at-bat in the fifth. From there, Titans scored twice in the bottom half of the frame and held on from there.

Brown's two doubles helped CF get back in the game, while Khawam and Heyer also doubled in the opener.

The Patriots then took the life out of EFS in the fourth inning of the second game with a season-high 12-run inning.

Khawam went 2-for-3 with three RBI to give Mirabal all the support he would need. The Patriots have now scored in double-digits on three occasions.

Overall this week, CF finished with a 4-1 record and has won six of its last eight games. In doubleheader games this season (three twinbills), the Patriots are 4-2.

The Patriots (7-5) host CCBC Catonsville (Md.) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
