CF Baseball routs South Florida State

OCALA-- The College of Central Florida baseball team started out the home portion of its 2015 schedule on a good note.

David Lebron (1-1) allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work to help the Patriots defeat South Florida State 5-2 on Friday afternoon at Goodlett Field. Lebron walked four and struck out seven during his stint, which saw him navigate the SFSC lineup on 111 total pitches.

At the plate, Andrew Frazier (1-for-4, two RBI), Malik Tatis (1-for-5, run scored), Justin Ambrosino(2-for-3, RBI), Luker Heyer (1-for-3, RBI) Christian Khawam (3-for-4, triple, RBI) and Ryan Crile(2-for-3, run scored, double) led the way for CF.

Crile is now 9-for-12 over the last three games.

The Patriots, who left 14 runners on base, outhit SFSC 11-4 and took advantage of three errors by the visitors.

CF fell behind 1-0, but took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth and added three more in the sixth for a 5-1 edge.

SFSC scored once in the eighth, but Hunter Halsey pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save of the season for the Patriots.

CF (3-2) returns to action with a home doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon against Palm Beach State. The Patriots lost 3-1 to the Panthers last Friday in the regular season opener for both teams.
