SCF Beach Volleyball wins AVCA National Championships

TAVARES, Fla. (April 17, 2022) - State College of Florida won the AVCA Beach Volleyball National Championship for Two-Year Colleges (TYC), knocking off Region 8 rival Lake-Sumter State College, 3-2, in the finals.

State College of Florida took the top spot in Flights A & B while Lake-Sumter State won Flights C & D. The decisive Flight E went the way of the Manatees to give them the championship trophy in the six-team event. 

Top-seed SCF advanced to the finals with a 4-1 win over No. 4 seed Spartanburg (S.C.) Methodist College in the semis while Lake-Sumter State, seeded third, beat No. 6 seed Bryant & Stratton College, 5-0, then took out No. 2 seed St. Johns River State College, 3-2. 

St. Johns River fell to Spartanburg Methodist, 3-2, in the third-place place. 

SCF's Ana Broadhead and Yeva Serdiuk and Lake-Sumter State's Erin Ellis and Alyssa Guarino were named AVCA TYC All-Americans.
