COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 27, 2015) - Region 8 landed 11 spots on the Division I All-America Softball Team, released by the NJCAA on Thursday.
The 11 picks included six first-team all-Americans, twice the total of Region 5, who was the only other region with as many as three.
Pitchers Jessica Elliott of national champion Chipola College and Holly McKinnon from the College of Central Florida, who spent much of the season as the nation's number one team, led the Sunshine State sextet. They were joined on the first-team by a pair of Indian River State College teammates - catcher Amber Atkinson and infielder Jessica Mohl. The Pioneers joined Chattanooga (Tenn.) State Community College as the only teams with multiple first-team selections.
Pensacola State College infielder Bevia Robinson and Gulf Coast State College outfielder Kayla Fields rounded out the first-team honorees.
Four more players were named to the second-team: Miami Dade College pitcher Milena Calixto, Seminole State College infielder Heather Roberts, St. Petersburg College outfielder Jennifer Bazylak and Central Florida outfielder Mariah Wise.
Seminole State outfielder Ashley Sims was the lone Region 8 representative on the third-team.
