FCSAA Baseball/Softball Notebook: March 24

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 24, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for March 24.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, March 31.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week

Palm Beach State College’s Nick Gallo is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Gallo, a sophomore from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., batted .500 (12-for-24) with five runs scored, one double, three RBIs and one stolen base in five games during the voting period. Gallo hit safely in all five games, including a 5-for-6 effort against Southern Conference rival Miami Dade. He finished the week going 3-for-5 with two runs scored against another SoCon rival, Broward.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Chase Ingram, Hillsborough

Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Hillsborough Community College’s Chase Ingram is this week’s NJCAA Region8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Ingram, a sophomore from Wesley Chapel, Fla., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period. Against No. 9 St. Petersburg on March 16, Ingram tossed a six-hit shutout in the Hawks’ 5-0 win. He walked only two batters and struck out 12.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week
Brashante’ Dareus, Chipola
Sophomore – C
Freeport, Bahamas

Chipola College’s Brashante’ Dareus is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Dareus, a sophomore from Freeport, Bahamas, batted .500 (5-for-10) with five runs scored, one home run, two RBIs and one stolen base in four games during the voting period. She led Chipola to a 3-1 record last week including a doubleheader sweep against Panhandle Conference foe Northwest Florida State on March 18. In game two against the Raiders, she was 3-for-3, scored three runs, homered and drove in two runs.  

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week
Holly McKinnon, Central Florida
Sophomore – RHP
Ocala, Fla.

The College of Central Florida’s Holly McKinnon is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. McKinnon, a sophomore from Ocala, Fla., went 3-0 with two saves and a 0.30 ERA in five appearances during the voting period. She went the distance three times including a 5-1, eight-inning, game one victory over Santa Fe on March 17 and a 4-2, game one win over NJCAA No. 3 Seminole State on March 19. In game two against Seminole State, she pitched a scoreless seventh to notch the save and complete the sweep against the Raiders. For the week, McKinnon totaled 23 innings in the circle and allowed only 12 hits and four walks while striking out 17.
