FCSAA Basketball Notebook: January 27

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 27, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls and Player of the Week selections for January 27.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, February 3.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jermohn Queen, Eastern Florida State

Eastern Florida State College’s Jermohn Queen is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Queen, a sophomore from Stuart, Fla., averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.0 steal in two games during the voting period. Queen powered the Titans to Southern Conference victories against Indian River State (January 21) and nationally-ranked Broward (January 24). After tallying 21 points and seven boards in the win over Indian River State, Queen recorded a double-double (12 points, 11 assists) in Eastern Florida State’s 97-78 win over Broward. For the week, Queen shot 57.7 percent (15-of-26) from the floor, 40.0 percent (2-of-5) from the three-point line and made his only free throw attempt. 

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Wesley Alcegaire, Daytona State – averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 rebounds in two games
  • William Cruz, Broward – averaged 17.5 points and 8.5 assists in two games
  • Shane Rector, Miami Dade – 29 points, four rebounds, eight assists and four steals in his only game of the week vs. Palm Beach State
  • Shane Temara, Pasco-Hernando State – averaged 15.0 points and 12.0 rebounds in two games

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jackie Blake, Miami Dade
Sophomore – Center
Miami, Fla.

Miami Dade College’s Jackie Blake is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Blake, a sophomore from Miami, Fla., averaged 19.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in two games during the voting period. She helped the Sharks to Southern Conference victories over Broward (January 21) and St. Petersburg (January 24), recording double-doubles in each game. Against Broward, she had 23 points on 8-of-16 shooting and 15 rebounds then came back with a 15-point, 11-rebound effort against St. Petersburg. For the week, she shot 40.6 percent (13-of-32) from the floor, hit 1-of-2 three-pointers and was 11-of-14 (78.6 percent) from the free throw line.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention 

  • Evelyn Akhator, Chipola – averaged 18.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in two games
