TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 21, 2015) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls and Player of the Week selections for January 21.

The next poll will be released Tuesday, January 27.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Marvin Jean-Pierre, Miami Dade

Miami Dade College’s Marvin Jean-Pierre is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Jean-Pierre, a freshman from Pompano Beach, Fla., averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.5 steals in two games during the voting period. Leading the Sharks to a pair of Southern Conference wins, Jean-Pierre recorded a double-double against Indian River State (January 14) with 20 points and 11 rebounds then added 14 points and seven boards in a 65-62 upset over nationally-ranked Miami Dade three days later. He also did yeoman’s work on the defensive end, limiting both opponents’ leading scorers to single digits and a combined 14.6 points below their season average. For the week, Jean-Pierre shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the field, hit 2-of-6 three-point attempts and 2-of-4 free throws.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention

  • Djordje Beronja, Eastern Florida State – averaged 12.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in two games
  • Tanksley Efianayi, Daytona State – 23 points and four rebounds in his only game of the week vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Kevin Mickle, Broward – 15 points and 12 rebounds in his only game of the week vs. Indian River State

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Simone Westbrook, Northwest Florida State
Sophomore – Guard
Chandler, Ariz.

Northwest Florida State College’s Simone Westbrook is this week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Westbrook, a sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., averaged 22.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 3.5 steals in two games during the voting period. She helped the Raiders survive an overtime win at Gulf Coast State (January 14), scoring eight of her 22 points in the extra period and recorded one of her ten assists on the go-ahead basket in OT. Three days later, Westbrook led Northwest Florida State past No. 1 Chipola with 22 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals. For the week, Westbrook shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) from the field, 46.2 percent (6-of-13) from the three-point line and 76.9 percent (10-of-13) from the free throw line.

Player of the Week Honorable Mention 

  • Jackie Blake, Miami Dade - averaged 16.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in two games
  • Sheanna James, Central Florida – 18 points, six rebounds and seven assists in her only game of the week vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville
