TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


October 9, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches October 2-8)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Keionna Mackey, Polk State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Gaia Riedmuller, Eastern Florida State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Madison O'Sullivan, Polk State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Martina Marti, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Kelsey Dodd, South Florida State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Abby Bucci, Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Region 8 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Valentino Balzano, Seminole State
  • Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Alexis Camacho Ramirez, South Florida State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: For a seventh week, the NJCAA Division I Poll is led by No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College. Miami Dade College slipped two spots to No. 4 following a loss to Eastern Florida State College, who rose three spots to No. 17, right behind No. 14 Polk State College and No. 15 Daytona State College.  
    • Division II: Pensacola State College dropped one spot to No. 8 in the NJCAA Division II Poll. Gulf Coast State College is No. 18 and Pasco-Hernando State College received votes.    
  • Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State picked up a win over previous No. 1 Monroe (N.Y.) College while Daytona State secured a tie against the Mustangs. As a result, both teams moved up one spot in the NJCAA Division I Poll - Eastern Florida State to No. 6; Daytona State, to No. 11.
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Daytona State and Eastern Florida State are ranked Nos. 4 and 8, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Polk State received votes for the seventh straight week.
  • Cross Country:
    • Women: Runners from Seminole State College and South Florida State College participated in the Ave Maria Invite. South Florida State produced the top individual runner, Alexis Camacho Ramierz, and Seminole State placed seventh in the team scoring. In the latest NJCAA rankings, Eastern Florida State climbed three spots to No. 12 in the Division I women's poll while Seminole State received votes. In the Division II poll, Daytona State is No. 6, one spot ahead of No. 7 Pasco-Hernando State. Florida Gateway College is No. 14 followed by No. 19 South Florida State and No. 25 College of Central Florida. 
    • Men: Seminole State ran at the Ave Maria Invite, the only two-year school represented, and finished seventh in team scoring. In the latest Division I men's poll, Eastern Florida State is ranked No. 16. In the Division II poll, Daytona State is ranked No. 4, its highest ranking since 2021, while Pasco-Hernando State is No. 9. Lake-Sumter State College is No. 16.
