TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and announced its Weekly Awards in Volleyball and Cross Country.


October 2, 2023 Coaches' Polls

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards (for events/matches September 25-October 1)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Player of the Week: Katielle Alonzo, Miami Dade
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Irene Mostardini, Polk State
  • Region 8 DI Volleyball Setter of the Week: Roberta Purashaj, Florida SouthWestern
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Player of the Week: Kaylee Hunt, Lake-Sumter State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week: Lauren Herz, St. Johns River State
  • Region 8 DII Volleyball Setter of the Week: Kiara Vega, Pensacola State
  • Region 8 Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Evan Casterline, Daytona State
  • Region 8 Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week: Giovana Meade, Daytona State

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

Fall Sports Updates

  • Volleyball
    • Division I: The NJCAA Division I Poll continues to be led by No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College and No. 2 Miami Dade College. Polk State College is up next at No. 15 followed by No. 17 Daytona State College and No. 20 Eastern Florida State College. 
    • Division II: Pensacola State College continued to climb in the NJCAA Division II Poll, moving up two spots to No. 7. Gulf Coast State rose one spot to No. 14 while St. Johns River State received votes following a 4-0 week.   
  • Men's Soccer: Eastern Florida State moved up one spot to No. 7 in the NJCAA Division I Poll while Daytona State remained No. 12.
  • Women's Soccer
    • Division I: Daytona State and Eastern Florida State are ranked Nos. 4 and 6, respectively, in the NJCAA Division I Poll. Polk State received votes for the sixth straight week.
    • Division II: The regular season series went the distance, but it was Pensacola State who claimed the Region 8 Championship with a 3-1 win at Pasco-Hernando State on Saturday. After the teams played to a 2-2 draw on Friday, both teams had a shot to win the title in Saturday's finale. Pensacola State won the season series 2-0-2 and will move into the South Atlantic District Championship Game, hosted by Region 10 on Saturday, October 28.
  • Cross Country:
    • Women: Seven teams participated in the FSU Invitational, with Daytona State emerging as the top FCSAA finisher at No. 20. Pasco-Hernando State was next in 26th. Eastern Florida State, Florida Gateway and South Florida State placed 28th, 29th and 30th, respectively, while Central Florida was 33rd and Lake-Sumter State, 34th. 
    • Men: Daytona State topped four FCSAA squads at the FSU Invitational, finishing 12th. Eastern Florida State came in 19th followed by Pasco-Hernando State in 21st and Lake-Sumter State in 24th.
