FCSAA runners cap fall season with XC Championships, Half Marathon

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Alabama's "Rocket City" was the site of the 2023 NJCAA Cross Country Championships and Half Marathon, and the FCSAA produced a number of successful performances. 

In the men's 8K, Daytona State College made the podium for the first time, finishing in third place in the team standings. The Falcons' Jared Falchook was the top FCSAA performer, finishing fourth. He and teammate Joel Jean, who placed 12th, earned All-America honors. 

Pasco-Hernando State College finished 12th followed by Lake-Sumter State College (18th), Florida State College at Jacksonville (19th) and Florida Gateway College (29th).

In the Division I race, Eastern Florida State College placed 17th, with the Titans' Dayton Law finishing 54th.

On the women's side, Daytona State edged out Pasco-Hernando State to finish 6th in the NJCAA DII Cross Country Championships. The Bobcats were 7th and Florida Gateway made it three FCSAA teams in the top ten, finishing 10th. South Florida State College placed 20th followed by Florida State College at Jacksonville (24th), the College of Central Florida (33rd), Pensacola State College (35th) and Lake-Sumter State (37th).

Individually, Daytona State's Giovana Meade was the top individual runner, finishing 4th in the 5K, to earn All-America honors along with teammate Shannon Jones, who placed tenth. 

In the DI race, Eastern Florida State placed 15th and Seminole State College, 20th. The Titans' Rachel Starr was the top individual runner, finishing 17th. 

In the men's half marathon, Daytona State finished sixth, leading a quartet of FCSAA programs in the team standings. Eastern Florida State finished 10th; Pasco-Hernando State, 12th; and Florida Gateway, 23rd.

Law was the FCSAA's top individual finisher in 19th. 

In the women's half marathon, Eastern Florida State finished seventh in the team standings, which paced the FCSAA's participating teams. Pasco-Hernando State came in ninth. Florida Gateway and South Florida State were 12th and 13th, respectively. Central Florida placed 17th and Pensacola State, 22nd.

Starr was the FCSAA's top individual finisher in 4th.
