NJCAA Region 8 Notebook: November 2

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (November 2, 2021) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls in Volleyball.

Region 8 Players of the Week Awards

Player of the Week awards for fall sports are complete. Men's and Women's Basketball Player of the Week selections will begin the week of November 9.

Fall Championship Events

  • Cross Country - Daytona State College men and Pasco-Hernando State College women won the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Championships on Friday, October 29, in Tallahassee, Fla. Daytona State's Andy Martinez and Harleigh Bilz Crist won the men's and women's individual championships, respectively. Up next is the NJCAA Cross Country and Half Marathon Championships in Richmond, Va., on November 13 and 16, respectively.
  • Men's Soccer - Daytona State College won the Region 8 Championship by virtue of winning the regular season best-of-3 series against Eastern Florida State College. The Falcons defeated the Titans 3-0 on October 16 and 2-0 on October 20 to claim the championship and advance to the Southeast District Championship against Richard Bland (Va.) College on November 6.
  • Women's Soccer - Eastern Florida State College won its 11th straight Region 8 Championship with a 2-0 victory over Daytona State College. Daytona State advanced to the finals with a 2-1, double-overtime win vs. Polk State College in the tournament's opening round. With the win, Eastern Florida State moves on to the Southeast District Championship against Spartanburg Methodist College on November 6.
  • Volleyball
    • Division I - The FCSAA Division I State Tournament will take place November 5-6 in Fort Myers, Fla., at Florida SouthWestern State College. The six-team, double-elimination tournament will crown a state champion, who will advance to the national tournament as the Southeast District A Championship. The loser of Saturday's state championship match will move into Sunday's Southeast District B Final against Spartanburg Methodist College for the right to advance to the national tournament.     • Division II - The FCSAA Division II State Tournament will also serve as the NJCAA Gulf District qualifier to nationals. Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Fla., will host the seven-team, double-elimination tournament, which also includes Region 23 champion Itawamba (Miss.) Community College. All matches can be seen live on the FCSAA Digital Network.
