TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 5, 2022) - The Florida College System Activities Association has released its weekly coaches' polls and Player of the Week selections for baseball and softball.

Region 8 Player of the Week Awards (for games March 28-April 3)

Congratulations to the following student-athletes who received Player of the Week recognition:

• Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week: Brandon Fields, State College of Florida
• Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week: Ben Chestnutt, Central Florida
• Region 8 Softball Player of the Week: Georgia Hood, Pensacola State
• Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week: Brittany Michael, Tallahassee

All Player of the Week honorees will be considered for NJCAA Player of the Week honors, which will be announced Wednesday.

• Northwest Florida State College's Greg Heiar was named NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to the National Championship
• Long-time Central Florida Director of Athletics Bob Zelinski has announced he will retire on June 30
• Monday marked the 35th anniversary of Hillsborough Community College's 6-4, 32-inning victory over Manatee Community College (now State College of Florida) in what is believed to be the longest college baseball game ever played
