Coffin, Drake, Holiday nab Pitcher of the Week honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 27, 2022) - The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and Region 8 claimed three of this week's honors.

Pensacola State College's Lydia Drake and Pasco-Hernando State College's Kylie Coffin were recognized as the Division I and Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week, respectively, while Florida SouthWestern State College's Brian Holiday was tabbed the Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week. 

Drake a freshman left-hander from Townsend, Del., went 3-0 with a 1.75 ERA in three appearances for the Pirates.

She tossed a trio of complete-games, including one against nationally-ranked Northwest Florida State College. In 20 innings in the circle, Drake allowed 15 hits, five runs (all earned) and one walk while striking out 18. Nine of her strikeouts came in a complete-game shutout vs. Tallahassee Community College. 

Coffin, a sophomore righty from Naples, Fla., went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances. 

She tossed a pair of complete-game shutouts against Florida State College at Jacksonville in the Division II Region 8 Championship Series. 

After going the distance in game one, a five-inning, 8-0 win for the Bobcats, she pitched a seven-inning shutout in the decisive game three. In Pasco-Hernando State's 5-0 win, she allowed five hits and no walks.

For the week, she totaled 12 innings in the circle, allowing nine hits and one walk while striking out six.

Coffin was named the Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. 

Holiday, a freshman right-hander from Land O'Lakes, Fla., went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance. 

In a relief outing against Polk State College, Holiday entered a 1-1 game in the fifth inning and promptly struck out the first seven batters he faced, including a four-strikeout frame an inning later. He finished with 12 strikeouts in five innings of shutout work. He allowed only two hits and walked no while earning the victory in FSW's 2-1 win.

Holiday was named the Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
