TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (June 14, 2021) – The Florida College System Activities Association has announced the 2020-21 Scholar-Athlete of the Year winners across its platform of sanctioned sports: baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's cross country, softball, women's tennis and volleyball.
From a total of 41 nominees, eight individuals were selected through a process coordinated by each sport's conference and/or state chairs.
The eight individual winners are now in the running for FCSAA Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which will be announced as part of the FCSAA's End-of-Year Awards that includes Male and Female Athlete of the Year and Male and Female Academic Team of the Year.
Hal Chasey Award (men's basketball)
Winner: Brody Boyer, Eastern Florida State
Has a perfect 4.0 GPA…NJCAA All-Academic First-team in 2020…two-year starter for the Titans, helping them to conference championships in each season…averaged 8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 40 percent from three for his career…the team's top defensive player…community involvement includes helping put up shutters for those not able before hurricanes and helping put thanksgiving baskets together and delivering them…also volunteered to wrap gifts for families in the community who had a need.

Sandi Miller Award (women's basketball)
Winner: Domenica Zamora, St. Petersburg
Has a 3.92 GPA…Central Conference Player of the Year…NJCAA Third-team All-America…averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 20 games…led the Titans to the Central Conference Championship…heavily involved in numerous community service projects.

Larry Monts Award (men's cross country)
Winner: John Bear, Florida State College at Jacksonville
Completed his A.A. at FSCJ in 2020 with a perfect 4.0 GPA then began working on biomedical science coursework and has continued to earn a perfect 4.0…earned Academic All-Conference, All-State and NJCAA First-team All-Academic honors in 2020 and will repeat those this spring…two-time All-America Scholar-Athlete recipient with the NJCAA Cross County Coaches Association…First-team All-State in 2020…first pace at the B3R XC Invitational and second place at the Horse Park Cross Country Invitational…volunteered more than 50 years this year as an official for the Florida Striders races and at two UNF track meets…also volunteered for the YMCA kid's track program and assisted with COVID vaccine program.

Larry Monts Award (women's cross country)
Winner: Sydney Stoltzfoos, Pasco-Hernando State
Has a 3.88 GPA…straight A student with exception of one course…two-time FCSAA All-Academic…NJCAA Coaches Association Scholar All-American in 2020…placed third at NJCAA/FCSAA Region VIII Championships to earn All-State honors and helped the Bobcats to a seventh-place finish at the NJCAA Division II Championships…also participated in NJCAA Half Marathon and led the team to a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:39.14, good for tenth place and NJCAA All-America honors…

Vicki Schnurr Award (women's tennis)
Winner: Mackenzie Vraspir, State College of Florida
Posted a 3.96 GPA at SCF and 3.94 overall, earning two Associates degrees and two Associates certificates…with all four awards, has been honored as Summa Cum Laude and has earned President's List honors in all six semesters at SCF…NJCAA All-Academic Second-team in 2020 and is poised for first-team honors this year with a perfect 4.0 GPA in 2020-21…FCSAA and Suncoast Conference All-Academic…participated in beach clean-up and also made handmade cards for the local children's hospital.

Roberta Stokes Award (volleyball)
Winner: Mallory Roney, Indian River State
Graduated with an A.A. degree in December 2020 and continued on with her studies at the B.S. level in business administration…graduated with a 3.95 GPA and currently caries a 4.0 GPA in bachelor's level coursework…selected to 2020 All-Florida Academic Team…NJCAA All-Academic First-team in 2021…two-time FCSAA All-Academic, two-time Southern Conference All-Academic…two-time Top 10% Student-Athlete at IRSC…named to Dean's List and President's List in all semesters at IRSC…2021 inductee into Distinguished Scholars…involved in ten community service projects as a freshman but service projects were not allowed in 2021-22 due to COVID…freshman season activities included Treasure Coast clean-up and feeding the homeless at Ft. Pierce-area food kitchens…First-team All-State in 2021…2021 FCSAA All-Tournament Team…two-time First-team All-Southern Conference...averaged 2.6 kills and 2.5 digs per set over 20 matches in 2021.

Has posted a 3.86 GPA through Spring 2021 term…compiled a .438 batting average, 10 home runs and 31 RBI in 31 games for the Falcons in 2021…led Region VIII in batting average and slugging (.821)…ranked fourth in Region VIII with a .518 on-base percentage…two-time Mid-Florida Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winner…two-time FCSAA Scholar-Athlete Award winner…NJCAA All-Academic First-team in 2020…led the Falcons' efforts to be involved in multiple community events such as SPARC of Volusia County and American Heart Association Annual Hearth Walk, and participated in camps for under-privileged youth in Volusia County.
