FORT DODGE, Iowa (November 14, 2020) - Region 8 teams fared well in Saturday's NJCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, hosted by Iowa Central Community College.

Wind chills in the upper 30s greeted runners as six total races dotted the schedule at Lake Municipal Golf Course, with the DII doubleheader serving as the final two events. 

In the women's 5K, Pasco-Hernando State College gained some measure of revenge against Daytona State College, who ended the Bobcats' four-year reign as FCSAA State Champions on October 30. With 199 points, Pasco-Hernando State placed seventh, one spot ahead of Daytona State College's 206 points.

South Florida State College (16th) was the only other school who scored as a team. 

There was a reversal of fortunes in the individual standings as well, as Lake-Sumter State College's Kyja Williams was the region's top finisher, placing 17th with a time of 20:09.55. Daytona State College's Harleigh Bilz was less than a second behind in 18th with a time of 20:10.21. 

Bilz and Williams finished 1-2, respectively, at last month's state meet. 

Jensen Mayer was the top finisher for Pasco-Hernando State, placing 25th with a time of 20:26.99.

All three earned All-America honors by virtue of finishing in the Top 25. 

Like Lake-Sumter State, Florida State College at Jacksonville did not score as a team but did send one individual participant - Shealyn Barbuto ran a 21:40.65 and finished 59th. 

Tatiana Mier paced South Florida State with a time of 21:59.49, good for 67th. 

In the men's 8K, four of Region 8's five teams traveled to Iowa and each placed 13th or better in the 19-team field. 

Daytona State finished fourth while Lake-Sumter State was seventh. Tallahassee Community College came in 12th, one spot ahead of Florida State College at Jacksonville. 

Daytona State's Andy Martinez finished fourth in a time of 25:23.13. Lake-Sumter State's Alexander Croy (26:36.91) and Daytona State's Adam Mastrobuono (26:39.54) were 13th and 14th, respectively, as all three claimed All-America honors. 

John Bear, Jr., led the way for Florida State College at Jacksonville, finishing 41st with a time of 27:46.50, and Bryce Bass paced Tallahassee with a 28:10.72, good for 51st.
