NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: March 3

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (March 3, 2020) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls for March 2 and named its Player and Pitcher of the Week recipients for games played February 24-March 1.

The next coaches’ poll will be released March 9 and next Player and Pitcher of the Week selections, March 10.

Alejandro Figueredo, Seminole State

  • Batted .556 (5-for-9) with six runs scored, one double, one home run and four RBI in two games during the voting period
  • Led Seminole State to a series win over Hillsborough
  • Was 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI in his first game vs. Hillsborough; went 2-for-4, scored three times and drove in a pair in game two

  • 1-0, 1.29 ERA in one appearance during the voting period
  • Picked up the win vs. Shelton State, allowing two hits, one run and three walks over seven innings of work; he also struck out eight

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Lele Martinez, Northwest Florida State

Ponce, P.R. 

  • Batted .611 (11-for-18) with 12 runs scored, two doubles, two triples, two home runs, seven RBI and 11 stolen bases in six games during the voting period
  • Helped the Raiders to a 5-1 record last week
  • Hit safely in five of the six game and had four multi-hit games; scored in all six games
  • Went a combined 6-for-8 with four runs scored in doubleheader vs. Enterprise State
  • Stole a base in each game, including three in game one vs. Enterprise State and four in game two vs. Lurleen B. Wallace

  • 3-0, 0.39 ERA in three appearances during the voting period
  • Three complete-game victories – two vs. Santa Fe, one vs. Florida State College at Jacksonville
  • Totaled 18 innings in the circle and allowed only one earned run and five hits while striking out 37
  • Three straight double-digit strikeout games, including 16 vs. Santa Fe
