Three Region 8 standouts claim Player of the Week honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 13, 2019) - The NJCAA announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and included three recipients from Region 8.

The Region 8 honorees included Chipola College's Julio Carrion, the NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Week; Florida SouthWestern State College's Rebeca Laudino, the NJCAA Division I Softball Player of the Week; and Gulf Coast State College's Hannah Poole, the NJCAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week.


Carrion, a sophomore from Toa Alta, Puerto Rico, slashed .636/.714/1.182 to lead the defending champs to a 4-0 week. 

 


Laudino, a freshman shortstop from Sao Paulo, Brazil, batted .629 (22-for-35) with 17 runs scored, two doubles, one home run, nine RBIs and 12 stolen bases in ten games during the voting period. She hit safely in each game as the top-ranked Bucs remained undefeated.

Against Jones and LSU-Eunice, Laudino was a combined 6-for-7 with six runs scored and five stolen bases and was named to the All-Tournament team at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.


Poole, a freshman right-hander from DeFuniak Springs, Fla., went 3-1, with one save and a 0.73 ERA in six appearances during the voting period. She threw no-hitters vs. Kankakee and Chattahoochee Valley and recorded the save vs. Des Moines Area at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, where she was named to the All-Tournament team.

For the week, Poole totaled 28.2 innings in the circle, allowing 12 hits, six runs (three earned) and seven walks while striking out 43.
