NJCAA Region 8 Basketball Notebook: January 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (January 8, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Polls for January 8 and Player of the Week selections for games played December 31-January 6.

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released January 15.

NJCAA Region 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Jeremy Sheppard, Central Florida

  • Averaged 28.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 3.3 steals and 0.3 blocks in three games during the voting period
  • Shot 56.5 percent (26-of-46) from the field, 56.0 percent (14-of-25) from the three-point line and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free throw line
  • Led Central Florida to a 3-0 week, including a 71-60 win at No. 25 Eastern Florida State
  • Scored a season-high 34 points and hit 6-of-8 threes against Polk State
  • Narrowly missed double-doubles against Harcum (24 points, eight assists) and Eastern Florida State (26 points, nine rebounds)

  • Averaged 23.5 points, 15.5 rebounds, 0.5 steals and 2.5 blocks in two games during the voting period
  • Shot 72.0 percent (18-of-25) from the floor and 57.9 percent (11-of-19) from the free throw line
  • Led Gulf Coast State to two road wins over ranked opponents
  • Had 15 points and eight rebounds in the Commodores’ neutral-site win over No. 12 Shelton State then delivered a 32-point, 23-rebound effort in a double-overtime victory at No. 3 Tallahassee
