CHARLOTTE, N.C. (February 6, 2019) - The NJCAA announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday and included three recipients from Region 8.

The Region 8 honorees included Santa Fe College's Anthony Arguelles, the NJCAA Division I Baseball Pitcher of the Week; Florida SouthWestern State College's Drake Dobyanski, the NJCAA Division I Baseball Player of the Week; and Pensacola State College's Shayne O'Connell, the NJCAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Arguelles, a freshman right-hander from Miami, Fla., was one of three pitchers recognized by Region 8 on Tuesday. He tossed one of three no-hitters in the region last week.

In his lone appearance during the voting period, he faced only one batter over the minimum in a 1-0, seven-inning win vs. South Florida State. Equally impressive is the fact he walked none and struck out 10.

Dobyanski, a freshman centerfielder from Naples, Fla., batted .667 (4-for-6) with four runs scored, two home runs and nine RBIs in four games during the voting period. He helped FSW to a 4-0 week, including a win vs. No. 2 Walters State and two over No.1 Chipola.

In the Walters State win, Dobyanski hit a 3-run homer with his team clinging to a 5-3 lead. In the second game vs. Chipola, his seventh-inning grand slam broke a 3-3 tie and was the difference in the 7-3 win.

O'Connell, a sophomore right hander from Tallahassee, Fla., went 2-0 with a 0.50 ERA in two appearances during the voting period.

She picked up complete-game victories against Roane State and Bishop State during the week. Against Bishop State, she tossed a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts in the 7-0 win.

For the week, O'Connell totaled 14 innings in the circle, allowing five hits, three runs (one earned) and two walks while striking out 22.
