TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (May 1, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Coaches’ Poll for May 1 and Baseball and Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played April 23-29.

This is the final baseball poll for 2018.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Danny Berg, Polk State
Freshman – LF
Saskatoon, SK, Canada 

  • Batted .588 (10-for-17) with six runs scored, two doubles, one RBI and two stolen bases in four games during the voting period
  • Hit safely and scored in all four games, leading the Eagles to three wins in four games
  • Had three multi-hit games, beginning in game one vs. South Florida State when he was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two doubles
  • Finished the week by going 4-for-5 vs. Florida SouthWestern

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Mark Potter, Central Florida
Sophomore – RHP
Melbourne, Fla. 

  • 1-0, 1.50 ERA in one appearance during the voting period
  • Allowed three hits and one run over six innings to earn the win in Central Florida’s 11-1 win over Lake-Sumter State to clinch a berth in the FCSAA Tournament
  • Struck out eight and walked only three

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Karli Woolington, Central Florida
Sophomore – DP
Tallahassee, Fla. 

  • Batted .769 (10-for-13) with four runs scored, one home run and three RBI in four games during the voting period
  • Had multiple hits and scored a run in each of the four games, helping the Patriots to a 3-1 record, including a split against nationally-ranked Indian River State
  • Was a combined 5-for-6 in doubleheader vs. State College of Florida; went a combined 5-for-6, including a home run and two RBI in game one, vs. Indian River State

Jennifer Jernigan, St. Petersburg
Sophomore – RHP
Pierce County, Ga. 

  • 1-0, 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period
  • Pitched a four-hit shutout in the Titans’ 1-0 win over nationally-ranked Seminole State
  • Walked only one batter and struck out five
