NJCAA recognizes Miami Dade's Whitsitt, Chipola's Goodman

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 14, 2018) - Region 8 claimed two more NJCAA Player of the Week awards on Wednesday.

Miami Dade College's Cheah Rael-Whitsitt was named NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week while Chipola College's Krystal Goodman was named NJCAA Division I Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Both Rael-Whitsitt and Goodman received NJCAA Region 8 Player and Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday. 

Rael-Whitsitt, a sophomore forward from Ann Arbor, Mich., played in just one game during the voting period, based on games played February 5-11, but produced a dominating statline - 32 points, 26 rebounds, three assists and five steals. 

She shot 57.1 percent (12-of-21) from the floor and 80.0 percent (8-of-10) from the free throw line.

Goodman, a sophomore right-hander from Long Beach, Miss., was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three appearances during the voting period.

She helped Chipola remain unbeaten on the season, pitching the Indians to wins over Salt Lake, Meridian and Coastal Alabama-South.

Goodman threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts vs. Salt Lake. Against Meridian, she tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out nine. 

For the week, she totaled 13 innings in the circle and allowed three hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 23.
