
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 29, 2017) - Two top pitchers in Region 8 claimed national awards this week.
Santa Fe College's Robert Girgis and Chipola College's Krystal Goodman were named NJCAA Division I Baseball and Softball Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Girgis, a sophomore lefty from Orange Park, Fla., was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period.
Girgis tossed eight shutout innings in the Saints’ 6-0 win at Central Florida and followed that with six shutout innings in an 8-2 win over Seminole State.
For the week, Girgis totaled 14 innings, allowing nine hits, no runs and three walks while striking out ten.
Girgis was named NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Goodman, a freshman right-hander from Long Beach, Miss., was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period.
She picked up wins over ABAC and Pensacola State and in the latter tossed a two-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts.
For the week, Goodman totaled 11.1 innings, allowing three hits, one run (unearned) and one walk while striking out 21, and she anchored a staff that allowed one run over four games last week.
Goodman was named NJCAA Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
