NJCAA Region 8 Baseball/Softball Notebook: April 11

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 11, 2017) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Baseball and Softball Coaches’ Polls for April 11 and Player and Pitcher of the Week selections for games played April 3-9. 

The next poll and player of the week selections will be released April 18.

NJCAA Region 8 Baseball Player of the Week
Tyler Schmidt, Seminole State
Sophomore – CF
Croswell, Mich. 

  • Batted .643 (9-for-14) with four runs scored, one double, two home runs, six RBIs and two stolen bases in three games during the voting period
  • Helped Seminole State to a series victory over Florida State College at Jacksonville, taking two out of three against the Blue Wave
  • Collected multiple hits in each game and was 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs in the opener
  • Went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in game two

  • 1-0, 0.00 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Pitched one inning in relief in an extra-inning win vs. Florida SouthWestern then tossed 8.1 shutout innings in the Manatees’ 7-0 victory vs. St. Petersburg, a game in which he struck out 12 and allowed only five hits
  • For the week, he totaled 9.1 innings, allowed six hits, one run (unearned) and five walks and struck out 1

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Player of the Week
Michalyn Bingham, Indian River State
Freshman – OF
Old Fort, N.C. 

  • Batted .538 (7-for-13) with six runs scored, one double, four RBIs and eight stolen bases in four games during the voting period
  • Led the Pioneers to a 4-0 record in Southern Conference play
  • Closed with a perfect 6-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep of Eastern Florida State, scoring four runs, driving in three and stealing six bases

NJCAA Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week
Krystal Goodman, Chipola
Freshman – RHP
Long Beach, Miss. 

  • 2-0, 0.58 ERA in two appearances during the voting period
  • Tossed a complete-game three-hitter with eight strikeouts vs. NJCAA No. 15 Northwest Florida State
  • Allowed one hit over five innings and struck out six in a 2-0 win over Gulf Coast State
  • For the week, totaled 12 innings and allowed four hits, one run and three walks while striking out 14
