EL DORADO, Kan. (November 12, 2016) - The 2016 cross country season ended on Saturday at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, held at Butler (Kan.) Community College.
Representing Region 8, Pasco-Hernando State College, South Florida State College and Tallahassee Community College were part of field featuring 37 women's teams and more than 300 runners from across the country.
Pasco-Hernando State finished 23rd while South Florida State came in 30th and Tallahassee, 33rd - the same order the three teams placed at last week's NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA State Cross Country Championship.
Pasco-Hernando State's Kylyn Burbine was the top Region 8 finisher, placing 93rd with a time of 20:17. Tallahassee's Samantha Reilly placed 128th in a time of 20:40. South Florida State's top runner was Grace Miller, who ran a 21:00 to place 148th.
Other finishers included:
- Pasco-Hernando State: Charlene Sanchez (21:03), Cynthia Negron (21:29), Annaliese Besaw (21:38), Morgan Mattera (22:07) and Marffee Simbulan (23:54)
- South Florida State: Julia Sota (21:20.66), Cali Gumpel (21:51.16), Savannah Walter (21:56.04), Alexis Armstead (21:56.54), Ilianna Addison (22:45.02) and Christen Pyles (24:25.32)
- Tallahassee: Mia Wiederkehr (21:41.41), Monet Maduex (22:09.04), Ashley Jones (23:21.62), Ellie Stubblefield (24:19.97), Jeanna Prisco (25:05.47) and Regan Ward (27:30.94)
While Saturday marked the end of the cross country season, Pasco-Hernando State, Tallahassee and Chipola College will run in the NJCAA Half Marathon on November 19 in Gulf Shores, Ala.
In other news, Pasco-Hernando State head coach Jacki Wachtel was named NJCAA Atlantic Region "Coach of the Year" at the NJCAA cross country banquet on Friday night.
