Polk State's Mostardini, Miami Dade's Alonzo earn Player of the Week honors

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - A pair of FCSAA Volleyball standouts were recognized by the NJCAA on Wednesday.

Miami Dade College's Katielle Alonzo was named NJCAA Division I Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week while Polk State College's Irene Mostardini was named NJCAA Division I Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week. 

Alonzo, a freshman outside hitter from Miami, Fla., averaged 5.2 kills over six sets. She also averaged 0.7 service aces, 1.5 digs and 0.5 blocks while posting a .282 hitting percentage.

Alonzo posted 15 kills and four digs in a three-set loss to No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College then had 16 kills and five digs in 3-0 win at Indian River State College.

Mostardini, a sophomore libero from Monsummano Terme, Italy, averaged 6.8 digs over eight sets. 

She helped Polk State to a 2-0 week including a 5-set win vs. No. 18 Eastern Florida State College. 

Mostardini added two entries into the FCSAA's 25-Dig Club, with 26 vs. Hillsborough Community College and 28 vs. Eastern Florida State. 

On Tuesday, Alonzo and Mostardini were named Region 8 Division I Player and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively.
