Pensacola State finishes fourth in inaugural NJCAA tourney appearance

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Pensacola State College had a successful stay at the NJCAA Division II Volleyball Championship, advancing to the National Semifinals before bringing home a fourth-place finish in the 20-team event.

No. 12 seed Pensacola State became the first FCSAA school to advance to the semifinals, knocking off No. 5 Iowa Central Community College and No. 4 Johnson County (Kan.) Community College before falling to top-seed and eventual National Champion Cowley (Kan.) College in straight sets. 

The Pirates responded with a second victory over Iowa Central in the consolation semifinals before falling in the third-place match, losing a rematch to Johnson County. 

Pensacola State's Maddie Mire was named to the All-Tournament Team and head coach Pati Gandolfo received the Sportsmanship Award. 

In addition to the Pirates, No. 13 seed Gulf Coast State College earned an at-large bid to the tournament and went 2-2 in four matches.
