Pimentel, Gordon earn National Player of the Week honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 31, 2021) - The National Junior College Athletic Association announced its Player of the Week awards on Wednesday.

Miami Dade College'a Paola Pimentel was named NJCAA Division I Defensive Player of the Week while St. Johns River State College's Mone Gordon was named NJCAA Division II Offensive Player of the Week. 

Pimentel, a sophomore defensive specialist from Rio de Janiero, Brazil, was named NJCAA Region 8 DI Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading the Sharks to the DI FCSAA State Championship. 

She averaged 5.6 digs in 14 sets at the tournament, where she was named the Most Valuable Player. 

Pimentel had 29 digs in a win over Eastern Florida State and averaged 18 digs in two matches against nationally-ranked Florida SouthWestern.

Gordon, a freshman setter from Middleburg, Fla., averaged 11.4 assists in 12 sets. 

She posted 40+ assists in all three matches, including 50 vs. Pasco-Hernando State and 46 vs. Florida Gateway. She also averaged 3.7 digs per set.

Gordon was named NJCAA Region 8 DII Setter of the Week on Tuesday.
