NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 22

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 22, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches’ Polls for October 22 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played October 14-20.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 29.

Player of the Week: Lesly Johansson, Central Florida
So. – MB | Miraflores, Peru 

  • In her only match of the week, she posted a double-double, 20 kills and 19 digs, in the Patriots’ five-set win vs. Monroe
  • Also registered two service aces, five block assists and a .410 hitting percentage

Defensive Player of the Week: Krystal Santiago, Florida State College at Jacksonville
So. – L | Corozal, P.R. 

  • Averaged 7.1 digs over eight sets in two matches during the voting period
  • Led the Blue Wave to wins over Daytona State and top-ranked and previously undefeated Polk State
  • Punched her name into the 25-Dig Club in both matches, including a 26-dig effort in the straight-set victory over Polk State

  • Helped the Lakehawks to a split in a pair of Sun-Lakes Conference matches
  • Tallied 17 kills and a .424 hitting percentage against Pasco-Hernando State
