NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: October 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (October 1, 2019) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for October 1 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for all matches played through September 23-29.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released October 8.

Player of the Week: Andressa Praise, St. Petersburg
So. – MH | Santa Catarina, Brazil 

  • Averaged 4.5 kills over six sets in two matches during the voting period
  • Helped St. Petersburg to Suncoast Conference wins over Florida SouthWestern and State College of Florida
  • Also posted a .568 hitting percentage

Defensive Player of the Week: Viktoria Ivanova, Florida SouthWestern
Fr. – DS | Sofia, Bulgaria 

  • In her only match during the voting period, she tallied 20 digs in a three-set outing vs. nationally-ranked Hillsborough

Setter of the Week: Bruna Avila, Daytona State
So. – S | Brazil 

  • Averaged 10.3 assists in 11 sets over three matches during the voting period
  • Led Daytona State to two wins in the three matches in which she played
  • Also averaged 3.1 digs per set thanks to a pair of double-doubles
  • Recorded 35 assists (11 digs) in straight set win over No. 8 Central Florida and had 51 assists (15 digs) in five-set loss to No. 5 New Mexico Military

Player of the Week: Louisa Marunde, St. Johns River State
Fr. – OH | Hamburg, Germany 

  • Averaged 4.0 kills and 1.7 digs over 14 sets in six matches during the voting period
  • Helped St. Johns River State to a 5-1 week that included a Sun-Lakes Conference win over No. 8 Gulf Coast State
  • In the 3-1 win over Gulf Coast State, she had 21 kills
  • Finished the week with 13 kills in just one set against D1 No. 5 New Mexico Military

  • Posted double-digit digs in five of six matches, including 19 in the win over Gulf Coast State

Setter of the Week: Jordan Pruski, St. Johns River State
So. – S | San Antonio, Texas 

  • Averaged 8.9 assists over 16 sets in six matches during the voting period
  • Helped St. Johns River State to a 5-1 week that included a Sun-Lakes Conference win over No. 8 Gulf Coast State
  • Her best match of the week came in the win over Gulf Coast State when she had 47 assists
  • Also averaged 2.3 digs per set and had 11 total digs against Gulf Coast State
