NJCAA Region 8 Volleyball Notebook: September 18

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (September 18, 2018) – The Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) has released its NJCAA Region 8 Division I and Division II Volleyball Coaches' Polls for September 18 and Division I and Division II Player, Defensive Player and Setter of the Week for matches played September 10-16.

The next poll and individual weekly awards will be released September 25.

NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Division I Weekly Awards

Player of the Week: Raytchelle Miranda, Broward
Fr. – RS | Curitiba, Brazil 

  • Averaged 3.9 kills and 5.9 digs in 19 sets over five matches during the voting period
  • Helped the Seahawks to a 4-1 record, including wins over Florida Gateway and State College of Florida
  • Recorded a double-double (kills/digs) in each match, including three entries into the 25-Dig Club (25 vs. Johnson University, 34 vs. State College of Florida, 26 vs. Daytona State)

Defensive Player of the Week: Veronica Brod Farias, Central Florida
So. – MB | Porto Alegre, Brazil 

  • Came up big for the Patriots in a pair of 3-2 victories over Florida State College-Jacksonville and St. Petersburg
  • In 10 total sets, recorded 11 digs but also had four solo blocks and 12 block assists

Setter of the Week: Tiziana Baumrukova, Miami Dade
So. – S | Prague, Czech Republic 

  • In her only match of the week, she recorded 36 assists in the Sharks' straight-set win over Eastern Florida State
  • Currently leads Region 8 (DI) in assists per set

  • Averaged 4.8 kills and 3.9 digs in eight sets over two matches during the voting period
  • Led the Lakehawks to wins over No. 18 St. Johns River State and Florida Gateway College to open Sun-Lakes Conference play
  • Recorded a double-double (kills/digs) in each match – 19 kills and 11 digs vs. St. Johns River State; 19 kills and 20 digs vs. Florida Gateway

Defensive Player of the Week: Amanda Berecz, Lake-Sumter State

  • Helped Lake-Sumter State to a 2-0 record, including a 3-1 win over No. 18 St. Johns River State
  • Logged an entry into the 25-Dig Club with 25 digs vs. St. Johns River State

Setter of the Week: Gabriela Hernandez, Lake-Sumter State
So. – S | Kissimmee, Fla. 

  • Averaged 13.3 assists in eight sets over two matches during the voting period
  • Currently fourth in Region 8 (DII) in total assists
  • Led the Lakehawks to a pair of wins in Sun-Lakes Conference play, including a 3-1 win over No. 18 St. Johns River State
  • Recorded 53 assists against both St. Johns River State and Florida Gateway and finished with a double-double in each (12 digs vs. St. Johns River State; 21 vs. vs. Florida Gateway)
